GO LNG leaves a mark at the biggest LNG Conference in the world

Go LNG project was present at 19th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas in Shanghai. During the 4-day event the project actively participated in Exhibition, the main conference LNG2019 and organized the workshop “LNG as Future Marine Fuel: Trends and Challenges”, held at the Shanghai Maritime University.


LNG2019, the biggest LNG event in the world, saw its debut on Chinese soil this year. The conference’s history reaches as far as 50 years into the past and offers its attendees unrivalled networking opportunities. Over 11.000 delegates and 240 international speakers participated in the event.


The event was a part of a joint mission by Go LNG project partners, aimed at sharing the best practices and experiences from Baltic Sea Region with foreign stakeholders and helping both the transport and marine technology industries to become more competitive by creating a hub for clean shipping, competence and tech development. The project’s stand at the LNG 2019 Shanghai – the 19th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas enjoyed high interest from the event’s participants, who would like to learn more about ours final projects’ outcomes – Baltic Sea Region LNG Cluster, BSR Blue Corridor Strategy, BSR LNG Competence Center and Samso Bio-LNG Business Case.


On 3rd April, the workshop “LNG as Future Marine Fuel: Trends and Challenges” was held at the Shanghai Maritime University and organized by the World Maritime University. The seminar was focused on Blue Corridor Strategy, The business case of Bio-LNG at Samsoe Island, the analysis on the safety operations of LNG transportation and Baltic Sea Region including shipping, LNG Value Chain and LNG bunkering experience. In addition, Cosco Shipping LNG Investment presented their LNG practices and transportation review, and Guangzhou Shipyard International spoke about LNG application on board-Gotland Visborg. The workshop provided the unique chance to exchange best practices and views with Chinese companies, maritime administration representatives and members of the academia.


On 4th April, Bogdan Ołdakowski, BPO’s Secretary General, partner of GoLNG project, took part in the main conference - panel centred around downstream LNG infrastructure and applications, with some key points including the role LNG plays in the development of distributed energy systems, infrastructure cost reduction possibilities and their importance for developing markets, LNG’s growing potential as a transportation fuel, as well as the future of small-scale LNG.


BPO’s presentation focused on the current state of LNG bunkering infrastructure development in the Baltic Sea region (BSR), as well as the rich experiences Baltic ports and ship operators gathered in recent years when it comes to the bunkering process itself. As of now, there are two large-scale LNG terminals (Świnoujście and Klaipeda) and several smaller terminals (e.g. Tornio, Pori, Nynäshamn, Hirsthals) operating in the BSR, with further three terminals under construction (Rauma, Hamina, Gothenburg).


The same day, Baltic Sea Region LNG Cluster signed official cooperation agreement with Chinese LNG Cluster, expanding the scope of activities to international level.


The LNG 2019 in Shanghai was summarized as a very positive event for GoLNG project with new members to the LNG Technology pool, Experts Network and BSR LNG Cluster.
